Hemp seed oil or CBD oil?

Before we zoom in on the properties of hemp seed oil and CBD oil for your hair, we first explain the difference. CBD oil is made from the industrial hemp plant: from the entire plant or only the tops. CBD is in fact an extract of the hemp plant, this extract is then added to a vegetable oil (olive oil, hemp seed oil, cooking oil) which gives you CBD oil. Hemp seed oil is made by cold pressing hemp seeds, they both have similarities but hemp seed oil does not contain CBD.

The 4 most important differences between CBD oil and hemp seed oil in a nutshell;

  1. The source of the product; hemp seed oil is made from hemp seed, CBD oil is made by extracting cannabidoil from the hemp plant and adding it to a vegetable oil, often hemp seed oil (or in some cases rice oil, coconut oil, olive oil or a mix of these).
  2. The composition; CBD oil contains CBD, hemp seed oil or hemp oil contains no CBD. There is an exception: if “Hemp seed oil CBD+” or “HZO+” is stated, this means that CBD has been added to the hemp seed oil.
  3. The effect; hemp seed oil is (thanks to the many antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that the oil contains) very healthy for you and good to use to maintain your health. This also applies to your scalp; Hemp seed oil is good for maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.
  4. CBD oil has a direct influence on the endocannabinoid system, which means that it could help with various disorders such as anxiety disorders, epilepsy, insomnia, psoriasis, eczema, pain and depression – but it is also used to sleep deeper, to focus better, to cope better with stress and promote healthy skin. If you suffer from hair loss, graying hair, a receding hairline, dandruff or an irritated scalp, then you better try CBD oil.

A boost of vitamins, minerals and fatty acids: for hydrated hair

Each hair consists of a shaft, root and bulb. The shaft is what we can see, the root is partially hidden and the bulb is buried deep under the root. Each of these components consists of approximately 95% keratin, your body’s own protein. This provides flexibility and strength. The amount of keratin in your hair decreases as it is damaged by blow drying, styling, but also from sun, sea, chlorine, color treatments, perms etc.

To keep the hair strong, keratin relies on a healthy dose of vitamins, usually three essential fatty acids: Omega-3, -6 and -9. Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are rich in these essential fatty acids, which help prevent moisture loss and keep the hair well hydrated.

Hemp and CBD oil against hair damage

Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are also rich in calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and Vitamin A, C and E – all of which are good for the skin and scalp. These last three are the best studied of all antioxidants – they protect us against free radicals caused by pollution. In other words; the high content of antioxidants in hemp seed oil and CBD oil protects the hair against environmental damage such as dehydration and frizz.

Hemp and CBD oil against baldness and hair loss

Hemp seed oil and CBD oil can (thanks to the enormous amount of antioxidants, good fatty acids, vitamins and minerals) be used to keep the scalp healthy. It is also used to stimulate hair growth, to prevent a receding hairline and hair loss and to prevent hair damage. CBD oil even helps against prematurely graying and also helps against bald spots:

We discovered by accident that applying CBD extract on so-called local baldness spots yields a quick result. Fanny, 24, who had been suffering from alopecia areata (spotty baldness) for ten years and was looking for a cure for this condition – applied CBD oil to the bald spots. Alopecia areata is a hair condition in which a person suddenly becomes partially bald. This condition can occur at any age, in both men and women.

In addition to this discomfort, she also suffered from migraine, Pit advised her to apply CBD extract on her temples to prevent this, that works transdermally, or via the skin, there are good reports about that. Fanny joked that she could just as easily put it on her bald spots, and she did. After a week she called her father: She thought something was happening to her spots, it seemed like her hair was starting to grow? Another week later she called Pit again, and now with the announcement that her hair was growing on the baldness spots! The photo below shows that her baldness spots have disappeared after two months of treatment with full extract CBD *, because they are overgrown with hair! CBD therefore works effectively against the inflammatory process around the hair roots, thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties of this cannabinoid. – Source: Mediwietsite

CBD oil to prevent premature graying

CBD oil contains all 21 known amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. For this reason, CBD oil helps to build up collagen and elastin, which are essential for strong hair. If you apply the oil to your scalp and hair, it helps to build up protein and prevents hair breakage. It also ensures that your hair looks thicker and fuller. In addition, one amino acid in CBD oil, tyrosine, helps to maintain hair color. This prevents the ‘graying out’.

Where this wonderful oil really makes a difference is keeping the scalp healthy. CBD and hemp seed oil make a huge advance in the beauty industry because it is good for your skin. Your scalp is no different. It is regenerative for the skin, so it helps the scalp to maintain healthy blood circulation, for example. Also irritated and sensitive scalps that sometimes suffers from dandruff benefits from the use of CBD oil.

CBD or Hemp seed oil?

If you are struggling with hair problems, scalp problems (local bald spots) and are looking for an oil that will make your hair look thicker, fuller, prevent a receding hairline, or want to maintain your natural hair color for longer, then you are doing well to purchase CBD oil (between 6% and 10%). You can apply this directly to the areas to be treated, and also take it orally to make it work from the inside.

If you already have healthy hair and want to keep it healthy, you can start with care products that use hemp seed oil. You can also buy pure hemp seed oil for internal and external use. You can always choose to purchase CBD oil alongside and to dilute this (even more) in the hemp seed oil.

How to use CBD oil for your hair

Internal use

Use the oil 3 times a day, two drops under your tongue. Keep this in your mouth for 60 seconds before you swallow it. It is recommended not to eat or drink for 20 minutes afterwards.

External use

Pamper your hair every week with an oil mask. For the base you use for example 20, 30 or more ml hemp seed oil (it depends on how thick your hair is), mix 6 drops of CBD oil into it. Massage (or better; get yourself a massage) your scalp, hair, temples, neck and forehead with the oil. For the best results, you can let it soak in overnight and rinse it out the next morning with hemp shampoo.

You can also apply a few drops of CBD oil directly to treat (bald) spots on your scalp.

Nice addition to your haircare routine: Hemp Shampoo

Most shampoos and conditioners affect the natural balance of the hair through the addition of silicones and sulphates, which dries out the hair and quickly makes it oily again. Hair care with hemp seed oil is very mild, keeps hair and scalp its natural moisture balance. It is therefore very suitable for people with dried out scalp. People who suffer from dandruff, eczema or psoriasis should also try using a shampoo with nourishing and calming hemp seed oil.
